In October 2014, members were given an opportunity to participate in a challenge. Each participant received a pattern and was challenged to look through the bins of donated fabric and find what she needed to make a quilt that would be no smaller than 50 inches by 70 inches and no larger than 60 inches by 80 inches. This size would be suitable to donate to the charities we support. The finished quilts were to be turned in early so they would be suitably displayed by February 12th the first day of the 2015 Retreat.
Eight quilters accepted the challenge and their quilts were put up for display to be adjudicated by a professional quilter who looked at the quality of piecing, quilting and binding as well as the “WOW” factor – how eye-catching it looked. Bonus points were given for a catchy name for the quilt. The adjudicator was impressed by the quality of work in the quilts displayed. She commented on the fine points, but also pointed out areas for improvement.
Another challenge has been presented for 2016. These quilts should be ready in January 2016. The winner of the 2015 Challenge now gets to select a pattern for the 2017 Challenge.
